Who We AreAppointed by the Mayor of Alexandria and confirmed by Alexandria City Council in March 2006, we are volunteer citizens who are committed to the preservation of historic structures and neighborhoods in Alexandria. What We DoThe purpose of the commission is to preserve the unique architectural character of our older buildings and neighborhoods. Why It’s ImportantOlder buildings and neighborhoods are our physical link to this community’s cultural heritage. Preservation of our historic structures insures Alexandria will retain its unique architectural and cultural identity for the future. By celebrating that identity we engender pride in our community and become a place where more people will want to live and work. Alexandria Historic Preservation District Commission Charlie CharrierCharlie is an attorney and partner in the firm of Charrier & Charrier. As president of the Historical Association of Central Louisiana he has been a leader and moving force in the cause of preservation in Alexandria for many years. As chairman of the Ordinance Committee and the Guidelines Committee, the commission relies heavily on his recommendations. Ed CrumpEd is an outstanding contributor to the commission. In the banking business his entire career, he known by everyone as a level-headed, thoughtful and committed individual. Ed has served on countless boards over the years including currently the Rapides Regional Medical Center, the Coughlin-Saunders Foundation and the Louisiana History Museum among others. His board experience is invaluable making him our unofficial parliamentarian and the go-to guy for questions of procedure. Florence HallFlorence has a long history of involvement in preservation having served on the State committee for National Register review for years. She is an organized thinker and can always be counted on to deliver an outstanding effort. She is chairman of our Certified Local Government Committee. Mike JenkinsMike is the Secretary of the commission and was the chairperson of the Staff Person Search Committee. He is a successful businessman with economic ties and commitment to historic preservation. He is a solid leader, highly respected in the community at large and on the commission. He is always supportive and available for the needs of the commission. His advice is always well thought out and on point. Veretta MollerVeretta is currently chairperson for the PR Committee that will define the face and purpose of the commission as we become known to the public. Robert RatcliffRob is Vice President of the commission and chairperson of the Standards Committee. Owner/manager of Ratcliff Construction – a business started by his father that specializes is large commercial projects. Rob is past-president of the Garden District Neighborhood Association. He and his wife Clair are active in neighborhood and preservation issues. Paul SmithA long-time grass-roots preservationist with several preservation projects to their credit, Paul and Emily Smith are committed to the cause of preservation in Alexandria. Paul is a board member of the Historical Association of Central Louisiana and the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation. Jim WeinzettleOriginally from Pennsylvania, Jim is an architect and partner in the firm of Ashe Broussard Weinzettle. He is a committed preservationist who lives in a wonderfully restored home in the garden district. Jim is a leader on the commission and currently chairs the Certificate of Appropriateness Committee and the Main Street Committee. |
